New DeSoto High School Under Construction
Over the summer, work began on the development of the new DeSoto County High School, adjacent to the current high school at 1710 E Gibson St.
As of the end of September, the new high school is approximately 13-14% complete, with a projected opening in the fall of 2027. Construction progress is paced according to the state’s funding allocation schedule.
DeSoto County Utilities has installed a new lift station in town. The Utilities Department is being proactive and preparing for the future development in the County. The newest station doubles the capacity of the original station, which is ideal for future development.
The original lift station 21 capacity was 8,572 gallons with 50 horse submersible pumps that were capable of producing 740 GPM per pump. The newest station is double the capacity at 16,921 gallons and the pumps are capable of 1,475 GPM. The control panel has back up controllers in case the one in operation fails ensuring that the station continues to operate as designed. The new lift station is located along SW HWY 17 and SW Senate Street in the Fort Ogden area.
