Daniel Sutphin

Economic Development & Tourism Specialist

Born and raised in Arcadia, FL, Daniel Sutphin was hired by DeSoto County in October 2022 as Economic Development and Tourism Specialist. Before that, he spent six years reporting for The Daily Sun newspaper. While there, he covered local governments and meetings in DeSoto County and Charlotte County. Those meetings consistently involved economic development, planning and zoning and other aspects of commercial and residential growth in those areas.

Previous to that, Daniel worked for a Gainesville, FL, magazine as a manager, writer and editor while also freelancing for a Jacksonville media company as an editor. He graduated from University of Florida with a Bachelor’s of Science Degree in Journalism in 2006. He graduated from DeSoto High School in 2002. After over a decade in Gainesville, and years working for the newspaper, he was thrilled to be able to work for his hometown DeSoto and help spread the benefits of its location, its history, and its friendly and thriving community.
