WHAT'S GOING UP November '24

November 2024 is here and with the end of the year in sight, this month's What's Going Up could be considered a "sum up" edition, focusing on development projects already noted by our monthly series, as well as recent openings and other developments that continue to progress.

Zaxby’s confirmed: Chicken Franchise coming to Arcadia

Zaxby’s chicken franchise has been confirmed for Suite A at the recently developed property of 1601 E. Oak St., Arcadia, at the corner of State Road 70 and NE Turner Ave., next to AT&T and Aspen Dental.

A representative of property owners, One Oak Development, stated that Zaxby’s has signed a lease for the empty unit and will build out the existing end cap space to meet the needs of the restaurant.

A timeline for the work is not available at the time of this post.

Something Sweet and Three Trees open downtown

Two new businesses have opened up in downtown Arcadia. In the September 2024 What’s Going Up edition, there was a focus on both Three Trees Brewing Co. and Something Sweet candy shop. Both businesses opened in October in downtown Arcadia despite some hurricane hiccups. Both businesses are open regularly and bring a variety to downtown.

Centerstone, Rebuild Florida fill out revamped shopping center

Once a home to Subway, and later a home to La Michoacana Paleteria, the Avila Mall shopping center, has housed a variety of businesses over the years at 923 W. Oak St., Arcadia, FL 34266.

Non-profit Centerstone Mental Health has officially moved into its Avila Mall home.

Centerstone is nonprofit health system organization specializing in mental health and substance use disorder treatments for people of all ages.

Centerstone representatives work with clients dealing with trauma, grief and offer family grief therapists, case management for the youth, first responder support, hurricane mental health support, as well as substance abuse and drug court case management, among other therapy needs.

Another organization, Rebuild Florida, also moved into the building.

Rebuild Florida is Florida’s long-term disaster recovery effort, committed to rebuilding impacted communities stronger so they are more resilient to future storms.

Walmart Supercenter has grand reopening ribbon cutting after interior renovations

Walmart Supercenter, 2725 SE Highway 70, held a ribbon cutting

 November 7th, to celebrate the many renovations inside the store. As part of the celebration, they distributed donations to the Arcadia Police Department, the DeSoto County Sheriff’s Office, Drug Free DeSoto, Toys for Tots and Strollin’ 4 a Care. They also celebrated their longtime employees, some of whom have worked for Walmart in Arcadia for over 40 years.




 Anderson’s Ink Parlor moves back to Magnolia

Anderson’s Ink Parlor has moved back into the shopping center along Magnolia Street in Arcadia. Managed by bespoke tattoo artist Addison Reesor, the parlor had been located on Magnolia St., before Hurricane Ian devastated the downtown area in 2022. Reesor relocated the business to a different downtown location post Hurricane Ian. He has since moved it back to Magnolia St. (Hwy 70). Reesor’s new shop is located at 37 W.
