Pletcher's On Monroe

A new home for local and contemporary art, Pletcher’s on Monroe opened over the summer in Historic Downtown Arcadia. Since that soft open, the Pletcher’s have brought in more than 20 talented artists to add to their unique and inspiring work at the art and consignment shop.

The Grand Opening and Ribbon Cutting for Pletcher’s on Monroe is set for October 11, starting at 9 a.m. 

Pletcher’s is located at 16 S. Monroe Ave. 

 
 

New Event Hall, Suite 424, to open at Fountain Plaza

A new event hall called Suite 424 is set to open inside the shopping center at Fountain Plaza. 

The plaza also includes El Charro Mexican Restaurant.

Marcos Merlo has developed the space as a small rentable area for business events, arts and crafts, small presentations and other meetings of 38 guests or less. A small kitchen space is also available for food and beverages.

New DeSoto High School Under Construction

Over the summer, work began on the development of the new DeSoto County High School, adjacent to the current high school at 1710 E Gibson St. 

As of the end of September, the new high school is approximately 13-14% complete, with a projected opening in the fall of 2027. Construction progress is paced according to the state’s funding allocation schedule.

DeSoto County Utilities has installed a new lift station in town. The Utilities Department is being proactive and preparing for the future development in the County.  The newest station doubles the capacity of the original station, which is ideal for future development.

The original lift station 21 capacity was 8,572 gallons with 50 horse submersible pumps that were capable of producing 740 GPM per pump. The newest station is double the capacity at 16,921 gallons and the pumps are capable of 1,475 GPM. The control panel has back up controllers in case the one in operation fails ensuring that the station continues to operate as designed. The new lift station is located along SW HWY 17 and SW Senate Street in the Fort Ogden area. 

Local Projects Large and Small

Sunshine Lane Hay is a new hay distribution facility being built at 1626 SW Mockingbird St., and SW Hwy 17 in Arcadia.
The first phase of the Oak Stone East has kicked off with clearing of land and development along Kings Highway just south of SW Peace River Street in DeSoto.
Three commercial openings happened during the summer with Aldi Grocery Store, 1737 E. Oak St., 7-Eleven, 610 N. Brevard Ave., and Zaxby's, 1601 E. Oak St.
Brother's Fish House opened its Arcadia location over the summer at 5 N. Luther Avenue. Brother's Fish House, originally out of Port Charlotte, aims to provide guests with the finest local fresh seafood in the market. Lola's Boba Tea opened this past summer at 917 Oak Street in Arcadia. They offer affordable boba teas, lattes, daily specials and light food options. You can find them on Facebook by clicking their logo above.
Las 3 Princesas launched near the end of summer in Nocatee, 4327 SW Hwy 17, Arcadia, FL 34266. The new restaurant serves authentic Mexican cuisine in a casual setting.
